Location & Transportation

Kosrae is the second largest and eastern most island in the Federated States of Micronesia. Lying 5 degrees north latitude and 163 degrees east longitude, it is north of the Solomon Islands and halfway between Hawaii and Guam. Kosrae is a single island state of 42 sq. miles and is one of the most beautiful islands in the Pacific. Kosrae is in the same time zone as the Solomon Islands or New Caledonia, Greenwich Mean Time plus 11 hours.

Air Transportation
Continental Micronesia has been flying to the islands of the western and central Pacific since 1986. Numerous East and West bound flights make Kosrae easily accessible even for short vacations. When doing a flight search, Kosrae's airport code is KSA.

The Kosrae International Airport, in Tafunsak Village is located at the north-western corner of Kosrae. The air terminal features handicraft shops, food service, and car rental agencies.

Kosrae's airport currently handles direct 737 flights that leave Honolulu on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings around 7 am, and after crossing the international dateline, and traveling a total of around 8 hours, you arrive the next day, Kosrae local time at around 12.30 pm. During this trip you will have two 45-minute stops, one in Kwajalein and the other in Majuro. Kosrae also receives flights from Guam on Monday, Wednesday and Friday that leave around 8 am. There are two 45-minute stops, one in Chuuk and one in Pohnpei along the way, and the flight arrives in Kosrae around 2.45 pm local time. (See the map above)

If you are traveling to Kosrae from Europe, the common flight paths are via Manila (Philippines), Seoul (Korea), or Tokyo (Narita Inl, Japan), and then connecting through Guam.

From Australia the most common way is to take a Continental flight from Cairns to Guam, which then has a short connection time onto Kosrae.

From the U.S. mainland, the common flight path is via Honolulu, but you can also take a direct flight to Tokyo from many U.S. cities, and then travel via Guam.

Save money on airfares - If you plan on visiting several different island in Micronesia, and your flights will originate outside of Guam or Micronesia, you can save money by purchasing a Visit Micronesia fare. Contact Continental Airlines by telephone to find out more about this product, but be aware that it is not well known to some of their staff, and you may have to be persistent.


Airport Pickup

When you arrive at the airport in Kosrae, our staff will be waiting for you. Return trips to the airport from the resort are scheduled daily for the outbound flight. Airport transfers are free of charge.
